Meet Kemi Birthjoy Johnson
Birth has never been merely a clinical event to me. It is a physiological process, a rite of passage, and a profound threshold in a woman’s life.
I am a Birthkeeper, Birth Educator and Birth Activist based in the United Kingdom. I have retired from the register as a midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and worked within the UK maternity system for many years.
My experience - both inside the system and at homebirths alongside families giving birth at home has expanded my experience in facilitating many kinds of births including shaped the clarity of my work today.
I am also a mother and an ecstatic grandmother — still slightly astonished at how well they have all turned out. Living womanhood across generations has only deepened my respect for birth as a foundational life event.
Over time, I have become increasingly clear about one thing:
Childbirth is designed to work.
And when it is respected, protected and properly understood, it often unfolds with far less drama than we have been led to believe.
Modern maternity care contains extraordinary skill and lifesaving intervention. It also contains fear, habit, and systemic pressures that can shift focus away from physiology and toward routine medicalisation.
I have stood in birth rooms.
I have supported women navigating complex decisions.
And I have witnessed both the power of undisturbed birth and the consequences of unnecessary intervention.
My work now bridges those worlds.
I support parents seeking clarity and sovereignty in their decision-making. I also educate and mentor doulas, birthkeepers and midwives who want a deeper understanding of physiology, critical thinking, and embodied practice.
My approach is evidence-informed but not governed by trends. It is grounded in anatomy and physiology, lived clinical experience, energetic awareness, and a deep respect for women’s innate capacity.
I help families understand:
– How physiological birth works
– Where genuine risk lies
– Where risk is overstated
– How to prepare the body, not just the birth plan
– How to make decisions aligned with their values
Medical care has its place.
But it should be a safety net — not the starting point.
Women deserve accurate information.
Babies deserve protection.
Families deserve sovereignty.
Whether through one-to-one sessions, professional mentorship, or public advocacy, my aim is simple:
To help people approach birth informed, steady and powerful — not fearful.
If you are seeking calm clarity in a noisy landscape, you are welcome here.
Whether through one-to-one sessions with parents, professional mentorship for doulas, birthkeepers and midwives, or public advocacy, my aim is simple:
To help people approach birth informed, steady and powerful — not fearful.
If you are pregnant and seeking clear, steady guidance in a culture that often feels overwhelming, you do not have to navigate it alone.
I offer one-to-one sessions designed to help you understand your options, prepare your body and mind, and approach birth with confidence grounded in physiology — not fear.
If you are a birth professional seeking deeper clarity in your thinking and practice, I also offer mentoring designed to strengthen physiological understanding and critical discernment.
